The annual Research Computing Exhibition will be held on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, 11 a.m. - 4 p.m., on the 4th and 5th floors of Walter Library. The Research Computing Exhibition includes a judged poster session with travel awards presented to the competition finalists.

All researchers using Research Computing resources are encouraged to submit posters. Research Computing resources include systems, software, and support from MSI, U-Spatial, and DSI. Examples:

  • MSI supercomputers
  • Software available through MSI
  • U-Spatial resources such as Planet or Story Maps
  • DSI funding from the Seed Grant or Graduate Assistantship programs

To be eligible for a prize, the lead author must be someone other than a faculty member/PI.

Posters should be submitted in one of the following categories:

  • Physical sciences and engineering
  • Life sciences and engineering
  • Social sciences, arts, and humanities

Three Finalists will be chosen from each of these categories, and the Grand Prize winner for each category will be selected from the Finalist groups. Finalists and Grand Prize winners will receive travel awards that can be used for any professional travel, including conferences, meetings of professional associations, or other travel related to your research.

How to submit a poster proposal (due March 12, 2024):

If you would like to participate in the poster session, please fill out the Intent to Participate form. (https://forms.gle/nMzKLGwEk3jcroFe9)

When we receive your poster proposal, we will send an email with more information about submitting your poster for judging. Please note: This is not an automated response, so you won't receive it immediately. If you haven't heard back after two work days, please contact Tracey Majoros at bartl033@umn.edu. Emails will be sent to the Corresponding Author listed on the Intent to Participate form.

Your completed poster, in PDF format, will be due on April 2, 2024.

Judging Information:

A group of judges will select the Finalists in advance of the event using the PDFs of your posters. The Grand Prize winners will be selected from the group of Finalists at the event on April 23.

Posters will be judged on:

  • How much did using Research Computing resources contribute to the outcome of the research presented?
  • How well is the use of Research Computing and the research communicated on the poster?
  • How well is the importance of this scientific investigation communicated?

We look forward to your participation in this event! Please contact msi-pr@umn.edu with any questions.
