MSI Tutorial - Interactive Computing at MSI
This tutorial will first introduce you to the concept of interactive high performance computing, as distinct from and complementary to traditional batch computing. We will then give an overview of the interactive HPC services MSI supports, with particular focus on the OnDemand portal as well as the interactive features of the Slurm scheduling system. Attendees will learn how to access these services from their local devices, launch interactive sessions, and interact with services including the command line terminal, remote virtual desktops, Jupyter servers, and more. Attendees are encouraged to bring a personal/work laptop to gain hands-on experience.
This tutorial will cover how to:
- Access MSI high-performance computing clusters in an interactive way, as distinct from scheduled batch access.
- Use the Open OnDemand portal from your local device
- Use other utilities that enable interactive-like connections
To be successful, you should have:
- A login with a research group on MSI resources
- Your own laptop or other computer to actively learn how to use these tools
