These researchers conduct discovery research in several key areas including immunology, oncology, and infectious diseases. Their research focuses on understanding molecular mechanisms that modulate the human gene expression network. An ongoing project is primarily centered on the area of post-transcriptional gene regulation, through messenger RNA turnover. By integrating several areas of expertise - genomics, proteomics, ribonomics and bioinformatics - the group is studying normal and pathological conditions at the molecular and cellular level.
Through Global Health Programs in Internal Medicine, the researchers study molecular biomarkers for the prediction and diagnosis of immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome (IRIS) in AIDS patients. This project studies the prospective cohort of HIV-infected Ugandans who have commenced highly active anti-retroviral therapy.
