Project Title:
Local and National Media Coverage of Politics

How do local and national media outlets differ in their coverage of politics? The decline of local media and nationalization of media consumption, accompanied by a rise in polarization and decline of trust in political institutions, makes this question increasingly urgent. This project compares the content of local and national political coverage by drawing on large datasets on local and national newspaper articles to see how such coverage differs, how it has changed over time, and how these differences and changes might be connected to our increasingly contentious politics.
