Project Title:
Gravitational Waves From Compact Binaries

The gravitational physics group at the University of Minnesota Duluth focuses on gravitational waves produced by compact binaries to improve understanding of gravity in the strong-field regime. Numerical simulations are required to study compact binary mergers, due to the nonlinear nature of the governing equations (the Einstein equations). This group is currently trying to improve simulations of black hole binaries and gravitational wave extraction techniques.
