Project Title:
Graft-Versus-Host Disease

The goal of this project is to define the transcriptomal landscape of steroid-refractory acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD) in humans. Steroid-refractory aGVHD is a fatal immune-mediated complication of allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) for which no effective therapy exists. Historically, steroid failure has been thought to be caused by unconstrained T cell-mediated inflammation targeting the intestinal tract. However, intensified T-cell immunosuppressive treatment strategies have had minimal impact on long-term survival in patients with this disease.
