Project Title:
Biogeochemical and Physical Processes in Global Earth System Models

These researchers are performing biogeochemical modeling of the global oceans using two models. One model is an Earth system model of intermediate complexity developed at MSI called MESMO. The second model is an ocean model using the transport matrix method (TMM), which allows the researchers to simulate ocean biogeochemistry efficently at high spatial resolution. Using both MESMO and TMM, the group investigates the variation in the elemental stoichometry of biological organisms in the ocean, and the resulting effect on their evolution, carbon cycle, and climatic changes.

This research was featured on the MSI website in June 2018: Models of Water Mixing in Lake Superior.
