The May lab investigates the evolutionary ecology of interactions among microbes and between microbes and their plant hosts. They have two central projects currently:
- The role of the plant microbiome in prairie plant health and conservation
- The effects of plant community ecology on microbial community structure and function
For most of their projects, and student projects, the group uses MSI resources to analyse a variety of genetic and genomic data, on levels from individuals to communities. Those datasets include NexGen amplicon sequencing of fungal communities, population genetic analyses of genome-wide sequence data, and RNA-seq expression.
