Project Title:
Solar Thermal Chemistry and Tissue Engineering

These researchers are involved in two areas:

  • Solar Thermal Chemistry Group: The work of this group is the analysis of solar driven chemical reactions for producing solar fuels and derived commodities. The analysis of solar chemical reactions, such as methane cracking, is used in geometric design of solar thermal chemical reactors.  Reactor design involves CFD for transport (fluid flow, mass, and heat transfer - including radiation and convection, composite with conduction through reactor walls) analysis and finite element analysis for reactor integrity.
  • Tissue Engineering: This workgroup models diffusion and mechanical stresses in tissues for application in drug delivery and artificial tissue construction and development.  Models require CFD and Finite Element analysis to predict diffusion rates and mechanical properties that influence tissue properties.
