This laboratory is involved in the development of protein and DNA adduct biomarkers of potential human carcinogens. The chemistry of metabolism of these hazardous chemicals is studied and their interaction with macromolecules is investigated by mass spectrometry methods. The researchers are currently focusing on the interations of these chemicals with hemoglobin and serum albumin. The studies involve understanding how the protein structures impact and direct the non-covalent binding of these chemicals prior to covalent adduct formation.
