Air Pollution Filtration

Air Pollution Filtration

Many large Asian cities suffer with air pollution, including large amounts of particulate matter (PM2.5), which causes severe health problems. MSI PI David Pui (Regents Professor, Mechanical Engineering) and his colleagues at the Center for Filtration Research have developed towers that can scrub this pollution from the atmosphere. The towers are being tested in China and India.

This research is featured in the Winter 2022 issue of Minnesota Alumni magazine: A Breath of Fresh Air. Preliminary modeling work for the project was performed at MSI and was featured on the MSI website in August 2018: Modeling an Air-Pollution Filtration System.

Regents Professor Pui uses MSI to support research at the Center for Filtration Research and the Particle Technology Laboratory.
