Distinguished Teaching Awards

Each year, the University of Minnesota presents the Morse-Alumni and Graduate and Professional teaching awards to recognize faculty who are committed to ongoing improvement of teaching and learning. Morse-Alumni awards recognize outstanding contributions to undergraduate education. The Graduate and Professional teaching awards recognize faculty in graduate and/or professional education.

Five MSI PIs have received awards for 2020-21.

Horace A. Morse – University of Minnesota Alumni Association Award for Outstanding Contributions to Undergraduate Education

• Timothy J. Dudley (professor, Chemistry - Math, Science and Technology, U of M Crookston)

  • Professor Dudley uses MSI for investigations into the causes of human heart failure.

• Clarence Lehman (professor, Ecology, Evolution and Behavior)

  • Professor Lehman is using computational modeling to study social dynamics in hominins and nonhuman primates.

• Casim Sarkar (professor, Biomedical Engineering)

  • Professor Sarkar uses MSI for computational modeling that support research to elucidate fundamental biological design principles that underlie cellular decision making and to design new molecular and cellular therapeutics for diseases ranging from diabetes to cancer

• Lana Yarosh (associate professor, Computer Science and Engineering)

  • Professor Yarosh is analyzing online patient support groups to see how people use these groups and how they might be be improved in order to better serve their members.

Award for Outstanding Contributions to Graduate and Professional Education

• Kathleen Thomas (professor, Institute of Child Development)

  • Professor Thomas uses MSI’s computational and storage resources to work with neuroimaging datasets that are used to study questions regarding behavior and brain development from early childhood to adulthood.
