Fungi at the Bell Museum

MSI PI Peter Kennedy (associate professor, Plant and Microbial Biology) was featured recently on the Bell Museum’s blog. Professor Kennedy is curator of fungi at the Bell. You can read the story about the collection and Professor Kennedy’s research on the Bell Museum’s website: Putting Mushrooms on the Map.

Professor Kennedy uses MSI’s Mesabi cluster to analyze datasets of fungal and bacterial communities. The Kennedy group also uses specialized software available through MSI for comparative genomics and transcriptomics analysis. MSI partnered with the Bell Museum to create the Minnesota Biodiversity Atlas, a searchable, public map showing where Bell Museum animal, plant, and fungal specimens have been found and collected.
