Targeting Fine Vascular Structures Using Image-Guided Focused Ultrasound
These researchers are investigating a new generation of dual-mode ultrasound array (DMUA) systems for application in noninvasive image-guided surgery. DMUAs are capable of both imaging and delivering tissue-modifying focused beams for the noninvasive treatment of cancer and other tissue abnormalities. This project investigates the use of DMUA technology in the treatment of atherosclerosis in peripheral vessels. The image guidance is based on both DMUA imaging and diagnostic imaging with registration between the two. Both image formation methods and image registration are computationally intensive.
