Studies of MOF and COF Materials and Biomimetic Adhesives
This project involves accurate quantum chemistry calculations to study the properties of novel metal-organic frameworks (MOF) and covalent-organic frameworks (COF). Some of these materials will be harder or more resistant to water and acids. Other materials may have interesting optical properties. The researchers are particularly interested in optical emission and absorption from infrared through the visible. They are also starting to study molecular crystals based on porphyrin and phthalocyanine elements. An additional project is the study of the properties and binding of catechol molecules to surfaces underwater, to better understand biomimetic adhesives. The calculations include DFT methods and also molecular dynamics simulations.
