Nanomechanics of Advanced Materials Structures

This research concerns plasticity and fracture in nanoscale structures. This encompasses nanopillars and nanoparticles and a broad range of single crystal and polycrystalline materials including silicon, magnesium oxide, and gold, as well as austenitic stainless steel exposed to aggressive environments. Continuum modeling accounting for the effects of multiple length scales is carried out with Abaqus Finite Element Method (FEM) package with a cross-correlation to experimental results.
