Novel Turkey Arthritis Reovirus
Recently, these researchers isolated ten turkey arthritis reoviruses (TARVs) from cases of lameness, arthritis and rupture of gastrocnemius tendons in 15- to 18-week-old tom turkeys. In addition, two isolates of TARV were obtained from another laboratory. The researchers have studied S and M class genome segments of these newly emerged viruses. They observed point mutations as well as possible reassortments throughout the M and S classes, which signify the importance of conducting epidemiological studies on TARVs. These studies will be helpful in designing prevention and control measures for this disease.
