Multi-Scaling Analysis of Rainfall and Soil Moisture and Implications for Weather and Flood Forecasting
The overall focus of this research is on scale issues in hydrometeorological and understanding the impacts of multi-scaling behavior of variables that are significant drivers for forecasting weather, floods and drought. This research involves hydrologic modeling, coupled land-atmosphere modeling, multi-scale statistical analysis of rainfall, and soil moisture data. It also includes development of methods to transfer hydrologic variables from one scale to another and assess impacts of scale and model complexity on forecast skill.
