Dynein Motors and Flagellar Motility

These researchers study genes involved in the assembly, motility, and signaling of cilia and flagella. Cilia and flagella are required for sperm motility, the determination of the left-right body axis during development, the clearance of the respiratory tract, and signaling in a wide variety of tissues. Defects in the genes controlling cilia and flagella lead to a broad spectrum of human diseases known as ciliopathies.

This research was featured in an MSI Research Spotlight in March 2014.
