Computational Studies in Thermal Sciences
The Simon group is working on two projects that use MSI resources. The first is a study of plasma cutting. Plasma arc cutting (PAC) is a widely used method in industry, and various studies have been conducted on PAC. Increased understanding of PAC will lead directly and indirectly to improvements in all of these processes. Our group uses numerical modeling as a tool to improve the understanding about these plasmas and its application.
The group is also doing simulations on fluid flow and heat transfer through porous media in support of development of a compressed air energy storage system. This device is intended to load-level wind generator power. Parametric studies including many simulation cases are planned.
A bibliography of this group’s publications acknowledging MSI is attached.
