A Medicago truncatula Hapmap as a Platform for Exploring the Genetics of Symbiosis
This project uses whole-genome association mapping (WGAM) to create a Medicago HapMap as a framework for discovering the genes and gene-systems that play a role in the contemporary evolution of symbiosis. Approximately 300 diverse Medicago lines have been resequenced using next generation sequencing technology order to search for single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), gene copy number variation, and insertion/polymorphisms among the different Medicago lines. This massive database of SNPs and sequence enables the discovery of genome segments with shared ancestry (haplotypes), which can then be used with data-mining techniques in the discovery of genotype/phenotype relationships involved in symbiosis.
