Notes on class accounts:

Non-Faculty PI and POI Requests

Non-faculty PI Eligibility Form

Information message

University of Minnesota academic professionals (all academic job classifications 97XX) are eligible to be PIs if their research is not part of research led by a University of Minnesota faculty member (academic job classifications 94XX) and if the research contributes to the goals and efforts of their University department or center and/or to the University of Minnesota as a whole.

Please note that for research led by a University of Minnesota faculty member, that faculty member should be the PI.

The requested information below must be submitted to the Supercomputing Institute by the academic professional’s dean, department head, or center director (if a faculty member; if the center director is not a faculty member, the form must be submitted by the dean or department head).

Each request is reviewed by the Director of the Minnesota Supercomputing Institute. If approved for PI status, the new PI must also submit the initial access form.

Required information:

  • Full name of person requesting PI status
  • What is the name and title of the academic or research professional requesting PI status?
  • Department of person requesting PI status
  • Email person requesting PI status
  • Confirmation from Dean/Department Head/Center Director that this individual should be eligible to become a PI

Person of Interest Request

Faculty researchers at other accredited institutions of post-secondary education in the State of Minnesota are eligible to become MSI PIs. To do so, they will need a Person of Interest (POI) account for themselves and their group members. To request a POI account, please email the following information to help@msi.umn.edu where it will be reviewed by MSI Staff.

  • Full Name
  • Title
  • Institution Name
  • Institution/Business Address
  • Institutional/Business Email
  • Institutional/Business Phone
  • Date of birth
  • Attestation: the PI requesting the POI account (either for themselves or another member of their home institution) must attest if the person receiving the POI account does or does not meet one or more of the Minimum POI Inclusion Criteria below. These criteria determine if the POI must be assigned the UMN Preventing Sexual Misconduct, Discrimination and Retaliation training. If you attest that this POI does not meet any of these criteria, the requestor is responsible for notifying MSI of any changes in the future that would align this POI with one or more criteria, and thereby require them to take the training.
    • Minimum POI Inclusion Criteria
Any POI who meets one or more of the following criteria is required to complete the educational module on Preventing Sexual Misconduct, Discrimination, and Retaliation:
      • POIs who are responsible for coaching, mentoring, advising, supervising, or instructing University of Minnesota members--or who otherwise hold a position of authority over University of Minnesota members-- as a part of their POI role.
      • POIs who have regular one-on-one interactions with UMN students as a part of their POI role, whether in-person, virtually, or via email.
      • POIs who have a significant presence on campus or at a University of Minnesota facility as a part of their POI role. At a minimum, POIs who spend more than an estimated 40 hours/year on campus or at a University of Minnesota facility will be considered to have significant presence and must complete the educational module.
