Collaborative Research to Treat Mental Illness

Brain Science

Research by the University of Minnesota’s NeuroPlasticity Research in Support of Mental Health collaborative (NeuroPRSMH, pronounced “neuro-prism”) is featured in the Winter 2021 issue of the U of M Foundation’s Legacy magazine. NeuroPRSMH is co-directed by two MSI PIs, Sophia Vinogradov (professor and head, Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences) and David Redish (professor, Neuroscience). The collaborative includes faculty members in neuroscience, psychiatry, psychology, health informatics, and imaging who are working to develop advanced treatments for mental illness. The group received a $15 million Silvio O. Conte Center grant from the National Institute of Mental Health in 2020.

The Legacy article can be found on the magazine website: Meeting of the Minds

Also featured in the story is MSI PI Ann Haynos (assistant professor, Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences), who is developing treatments for anorexia nervosa, research for which she uses MSI resources. Professor Redish uses MSI resources to analyze datasets of neural activity gathered from subjects performing complex tasks. Professor Vinogradov uses MSI for analysis of neuroimaging data from tens of thousands of subjects.
