Project Title:
Canine and Feline Genetics

This laboratory investigates genetic diseases and other genetic traits in cats and dogs, both for the advancement of veterinary medicine and for translational research where these species are spontaneous models of human disease. This includes, for example, projects on the discovery of genetic risk factors for complex diseases such as kidney stones and hyperlipidemia. Most of the sequencing is done through the University of Minnesota Genomics Center. MSI resources are used for data storage and for analysis of whole genome sequencing (WGS) data via Galaxy. Current research involves WGS data from ~80 dogs with plans for another 10-20 genomes. The group also has RNA-seq data from over 50 individuals of various species (dog, cat, otter, ferret).
